There is a saying that often comes to mind when I see brides overthinking the hairstyle they want on their wedding day. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best decision and Lily was the personification of this on her wedding day. Hailing from New York City herself (upper Manhattan), Lily decided to get married at an art museum called The Frick Collection in New York City. The venue is sophisticated, regal and effortlessly timeless, all of which Lily embodied beautifully on her wedding day.
When Lily and I began chatting, she described her style as a classic look, nothing too loud or over the top. She decided that she wanted her hair up, but was undecided on the right look, debating between casual or proper. She decided on a more proper look at her trial to complement the elegance of her venue and wedding gown. After her trial, she confirmed that the ballerina-esque bun / updo was the look for her, as she felt sophisticated and classic.
Since The Frick Collection is an art museum and doesn’t have a getting ready room, Lily decided to get ready with her bridesmaids at her apartment on the upper east side of New York City. Deciding to get ready at home has it’s pros and cons, as in New York City, you always have to be aware of traffic. Though getting ready at home, allowed her to feel relaxed and at ease until she needed to be at the venue.
Tip: If there isn’t a getting ready room or a lot of space at your venue to get ready, consider getting ready at a hotel nearby so everyone feels at ease and it isn’t cramped.
By getting ready at home, she was able to have her portraits done in the beautiful lighting it had. Then she was able to head to the venue to be married to her groom to be, Stephen.
One of the most requested styles for the end of 2019 and leading into 2020 was a more elegant and refined sense of style for hair and/or makeup. Most of the trends have been a nod to classic Old Hollywood and sophisticated / unfussy styles that showcase the style of the wedding without overwhelming the overall look.
I recommend choosing a hairstyle that makes you feel your best. If you normally wear your hair down, choose a down-style or vice versa if you normally wear your hair up. You should focus on the day itself and not be self-conscious.

Katelyn
