A New Years Eve Wedding At The Inn At Rancho Santa Fe
Nestled in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe lies an Inn with a history dating back to the 1920s when the area was first established, and eponymously named “The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe”. When you walk within its walls, you can almost hear the stories that were shared by the fire, and feel the joy that each guest has brought with them when they stayed on property. So it’s no wonder that couples flock to The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, to be married on the lawn out front, surrounded by loved ones amongst the foliage. For our couple, Jessica and Shareef, these were undeniable factors, and that the Inn, with all it’s semi-private casitas, could accommodate their wedding size, to make it truly a day surrounded by only their loved ones.
When I First Met Jessica
I was first introduced to Jessica through her planner Kelsey of Kelsey Rae Designs, as Jessica was unsure exactly of the hair and makeup look that she wanted for her wedding day. Part of my job as a beauty concierge is to get to know each client, so even if they are unsure, I can help lead them in the right direction to match them with artists that can help them refine a complete wedding day look.
For example, I ask any potential client how they envision their wedding day (hair, makeup, feel of the day, etc.) as all of those factors play into the story of the day. These elements will help me get a sense of the overall feeling for the day and hair and/or makeup looks that compliment it.
For Jessica, she described her wedding day as romantic, candle-lit, festive and cozy, as she and her fiancé Shareef were getting married on New Years Eve. On a daily basis, Jessica often had a natural makeup look, but for her wedding day wanted it to feel special. A look that was noticeable that she had on makeup, and would look great in photos, but not so much that she didn’t feel like herself. Her fiancé loves it when her hair is down and curled, so she wanted to embrace that look and just elevate it with it being slightly pulled back with some extensions to add fullness.
Testing Out Hair and Makeup Looks
In order to get a sense of what look she wanted for her wedding day, I recommended she have a trial for her engagement photos, so she could get a sense of the level of makeup coverage she would want the day of. Being that the wedding was in San Diego, and Jessica herself lived in LA, I set her up with an artist located in LA to provide ease of the trial. Then on the wedding day, this artist would travel to SD.
After her trial, she initially thought that the level of coverage was too much, but after seeing the photos, she realized it was the perfect amount and truly felt that the makeup would make her feel special on her wedding day.
Tip: The level of coverage often has to be more for photos, as the high-definition can make you look washed out and something you want to avoid.
Wedding Day Ready
Another part of my job as a beauty concierge, was scheduling enough makeup artists and hairstylists to accommodate her hair and makeup, as well as her 14 bridesmaids. For Jessica, I coordinated 5 artists that way no one had to be up too early to start.
Tip: I recommend all party members getting their hair and/or makeup professionally done for any wedding day. Reason being, with professional artists, there is a level of consistency of the styles / looks. This ensures the looks will last all day and look good in photos.
With all this being said, Jessica and her gals got ready at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe for her New Years Eve wedding, starting at 10:00am and were ready by 3:00pm for photos. They had a blast, rocked the photos and from what I heard their looks lasted well into New Years Day.
