The Ultimate Guide to The Perfect Natural Makeup Look
Today is the last day of 2018 and it’s been a year of trends. Color reigned supreme in event design, unconventional entertainment and materials for invites. Beauty not to be forgotten, 2018 was the year of the natural makeup look, and the “woke up like this” look. More minimal in makeup without heavy eyeliner or a smokey eye and skin that looks smooth and flawless, without being too heavy. As we go into 2019, the natural look is going to continue to be popular, so here is the ultimate guide to the perfect natural makeup look for any occasion.
Focus on skin
The base of any makeup look is your skin. If you have good skin, then your foundation will lay better and look smoother, giving you the look as if you aren’t wearing any makeup. Make sure you have a good skin routine in place, but after that take note of your skin type when looking for foundation. If you have normal/dry skin, look for products that aren’t too heavy or that have some moisturizing components to them. With sensitive skin, stay clear of heavy foundations as these may irritate your skin and then the whole idea of “no makeup makeup look” becomes mute since everyone can see your skin is irritated. If you have oily skin, look for products that are specifically for oily skin and that will absorb the oils. Mattifying foundations are great for oily skin as they keep your overall look smooth and they absorb the oils that would look your skin look shiny.

Neutrals are your friend (eyeshadows/liners)
When you are wanting a natural makeup look, it’s best to stick to neutral tones in your eyeshadow and eyeliner. Soft browns, bronzes, and golds are your friend. You can do a soft smokey eye with neutrals so you accentuate your eyes but not overwhelm or look like you are going to a night club. Neutral shadows are for an everyday, all day look.
If you are one that loves eyeliner, and need it (girl I feel you), and there is a solution: brown eyeliner. You can use a liquid eyeliner or a pencil liner and smudge it out. Just enough to accentuate, but not to overwhelm.
To highlight or not to highlight?
Me personally I love a good highlight, but just enough to catch natural lighting. So a dusting on each cheekbone and then the ridge of your nose. This will keep your makeup looking natural and like the sun loves you by showering you with its natural light.
Same goes to contour. Enough on the natural lines of your cheeks and give definition to your forehead, but then buff it out. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but trust me, it will look natural. You want it to look like you just woke up like that, not that you actually took time to do your makeup or have any on.
2019 is going to be busier than ever so might as well make sure you have a makeup routine that makes you look as effortless as you are going to make 2019 feel.
