Event Prep: Do’s & Don’ts
If you have an event coming up, you are probably planning a checklist of things to do. If you aren’t, well you need to. No winging it here. Here are some of the things I do to prep for any event (including networking).
This one boggles my mind, how people don’t hydrate themselves enough. I am constantly drinking water, and whenever my water bottle becomes empty, I refill it. Yes the saying is to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but really I totally drink more than that. Why? Because it works for me. Do what works for you though. If you don’t need that much water to function or feel good, then don’t drink as much as me.
Part of the reason why I drink so much water though, is because of my skin. My skin is pretty flawless, which I attribute to clean eating, a consistent nightly routine (you can check out mine here), and drinking plenty of water. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and hydrating it keeps it healthy.
Sweat it out
Now I am sure you are thinking, that this is something you have heard before. You’re right, I’ve heard this before too. Working out increases blow flow and can make your skin glow (after all the redness and huffing and puffing stops of course). However, I am not recommending working out for that reason (though it is a good one), rather I am telling you to work out to calm down. If you are anything like me (i.e. A type personality, planner, organized AF), you just need times that you can decompress. For me, this is working out. It is the one hour a day that I can put my phone away, and just have me time with no interruptions. The days leading up to an event, work out for yourself and for your sanity. And no, this does not mean you have to kill yourself in the gym. If you just want to go for a walk outside, do it. Do what works for you.
I would love to say treat yourself with all the bad things for you (french fries, milkshakes, alcohol), but these are the things that work for me and unfortunately, those do not help me get ready for an event. Post-event? Bring on everything!
Treat yourself to beauty services. Get a blowout, a mani-pedi, your makeup done, and better yet, have it all come to you. We’ve got you covered there. You can just sit back, and enjoy the experience without lifting a finger. That’s what a beauty concierge service does of course, and you can see what we can do for you here.
Yes getting pampered feels great, but it also allows you to get ready for your event without adding extra stress. You want to be in the best frame of mind when connecting with others, because first impressions are everything (not going to sugarcoat it). This includes your outward appearance and how you come across when speaking. The best way to give the best first impression? Be yourself. Seriously, dress in a way that is a reflection of you and your personality, because the people you want to attract are the ones that will be drawn to you, not some facade you are putting up to impress. Beauty services are meant to enhance your natural beauty and help you radiate confidence, so take advantage of them.
Just be you
I cannot stress this enough. Be you and be proud of it. I love to make genuine connections with people, but that wouldn’t be possible if I censored myself. I am sarcastic and while I may temper the degree of sarcasm I employ when meeting others, I do not withhold it entirely, because that’s not me. If we are going to connect, it’s because we vibe with one another. It’s all about finding your niche, particularly with networking, because ultimately you want to collaborate with people who get you.
- Stay hydrated! Water, not alcohol.
- Sweat for your sanity, not your body. Though working out does increase confidence.
- Treat yourself. Decompress to put your best foot forward.
- Be you. Unapologetically.
These are the things that work for me, but do what works for you. In fact, if you have some things that work for you that I didn’t share, let me know! I would love to learn more about you and try new things.
P.S. Would love to connect more with you on Instagram! Give us a follow and then we can Instagram stalk you. You know you want us too 😉
